What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The Endocannabinoid System is a biological system that exists in all mammals, including our beloved pets. Scientists believe this system is responsible in maintaining homeostasis and balance across a vast number of bodily systems.
The system is composed of natural cannabinoid receptors that send messages to each other using neurotransmitters. This system is comprised of two types of receptors; CB1 & CB2. The graphic below details the bodily systems that each type of receptor is located in.
How Does CBD Interact with the ECS?
CBD or Cannabidiol is one of the many cannabinoids founds in hemp. One other famous cannabinoid is THC, which is well known to be psychoactive and produce a high. Cannabidiol, along with some other cannabinoids are non-psychoactive, meaning they will not have an intoxicating effect.
Research is still ongoing and we are just beginning to understand all of the benefits that can be experienced by introducing cannabinoids like CBD to your, or your pets' endocannabinoid system.
